How to Mute Someone on Snapchat
Snapchat allows users to send messages and post stories and you may be receiving notifications for both. What Happens When You Mute Someone on Snapchat
Muting someone’s messages and stories on Snapchat is a polite solution when you neither want to block or unfriend them nor want to receive notifications from them. At least, not immediately. However, most users don’t fully understand the consequences of muting someone on Snapchat.
Will I Receive Notifications for Messages and Stories
No. That’s a simple one. You won’t receive notifications for any messages they send you or any stories they post to their profile.
Will They Be Notified If I Mute Them on Snapchat
Again, no. Snapchat doesn’t send notifications to the user who was muted on Snapchat. So no worries there.
How to Know If You Are Muted on Snapchat
If the tables turn and someone decides to mute you, there are a few workarounds that you can try to find out.
Send them a story or message when you meet them next and see if their phone screen lights up. Of course, it is possible that they have Scheduled Summary enabled or some notification manager on Android. Send a message or story and then ask them if they liked it or not. Again, it is possible they didn’t get the time to view it or forgot all about it.
However, the best advice would be to not worry about it too much. Instead of focusing on things like who muted you and why, get out in the sun and live life.
How to View Stories From Muted Profiles/Groups on Snapchat
When you mute a profile or group, their stories are moved to the end of the story list. So you need to scroll to the bottom of the story list to view them. Also, since you have shown disinterest, Snapchat won’t show stories from muted profiles in the story slideshow either.
How to See Messages From Muted Snapchat Profiles/Groups
Simply go to the Chat tab and find the profile to read their messages. You will still receive snaps, just won’t be notified of the same. So the only way to know if someone has sent a message is to check their profile.
How to Know if There Is Unread Message or Story From Muted Profile/Group
Snapchat has different icons and symbols that tell you different things. For example, if there are unread messages or unseen stories from the profile, you will see a blue circle next to the name. We have a guide on what all the icons and symbols mean on Snapchat. Do read.
How to Unmute Messages or Stories on Snapchat for Profiles/Groups
Repeat the same steps that you followed to mute the profile or group on Snapchat. To enable message notifications for profiles or groups on Snapchat, go to Chat tab > Chat Settings and enable Message Notifications. To enable story notifications for profiles or groups, go to Chat tab > Story Settings and disable Mute Story.
Can I Set a Time Limit Before Muting Someone on Snapchat
No. Unlike WhatsApp where you can mute profiles and groups for different periods of time, Snapchat doesn’t have this feature.
Snapchat: Mute or Block
Confusing options but more often than not, muting is a much better option. The block feature is for profiles that are harassing you, sending spam or harmful or scam messages, and so on. Mute is subtle and you still get to stay connected. It’s just that you are prioritizing your time, that’s all. Notice the new My AI chatbot at the top of your chat feed? Don’t want it or need it?
