1. Check the Alarm Tone and Volume
This may seem obvious, but it’s still worth checking. Alarms on your Samsung phone may not fail to make any sound if the set alarm tone is unavailable or if the volume is muted. Hence, it’s the first thing you need to check.
- Open the Clock app on your phone. In the Alarm tab, select the alarm that’s not going off.
- Enable the toggle next to the Alarm sound.
- Next, tap on Alarm sound and check the set Ringtone. Note: Your Samsung phone would require an internet connection to play an alarm tone from Spotify, so it’s best to choose from the available ringtones.
- Lastly, use the slider at the bottom to increase the volume to your liking.
2. Check the Alert Settings in the Clock App
Another reason why the alarm sound on your Samsung phone may not work is if your phone is set to Mute or Vibrate. Thankfully, the Samsung Clock app gives you the option to play alarm sounds even when the system sound turned is off. Here’s how to enable it.
- Open the Clock app. Tap the kebab menu (three dots) in the top right corner and select Settings.
- Disable the toggle next to Silence alarms when system sound is off.
3. Allow the Clock App to Set Alarms & Reminders
On One UI, apps need to obtain your permission in order to set alarms and reminders. If you’ve previously disabled this permission for the Clock app, your set alarms will not work. Here’s what you can do to fix it.
- Long press on the Clock app icon and tap the info icon from the menu that appears.
- On the App info page, tap on Alarms & reminders and enable the toggle next to Allow setting alarms and reminders.
4. Enable Automatic Date and Time
Having your Samsung phone set to an incorrect date or time can result in a variety of problems, including the one discussed here. To avoid such issues, it’s best to enable the automatic date and time feature on your phone.
- Open the Settings app on your phone and go to General management > Date and time.
- Enable the toggle for Automatic date and time.
5. Configure Do Not Disturb Mode
When you enable Do Not Disturb mode, your phone may silence alarms along with other phone notifications. If you don’t want that to happen, here’s how to allow alarms during DND mode on your Samsung phone.
- Open the Settings app on your phone and navigate to Notifications > Do Not Disturb.
- Tap on Alarms and sounds and enable the toggle next to Alarms.
6. Clear the Clock App Cache and Data
Overwhelming cache data could also cause the Clock app on your phone to malfunction. If that’s the case, clearing the Clock app cache should help.
- Long press on the Clock app icon and tap the info icon from the resulting menu.
- Go to Storage and tap the Clear cache option in the bottom right corner. After this, check if your alarms work. If the problem persists, tap on the Manage storage option at the bottom. Tap on Clear data and hit Clear to confirm.
7. Update the Clock App
The alarm not working issue could also be due to an outdated or buggy Clock app. Here’s how to check if a newer version of the Clock app is available.
- In the Clock app, tap the kebab menu (three dots) in the top right corner and select Settings.
- Scroll down to tap on About Clock. If a new version is available, tap on Update to install it.
8. Reset App Preferences
Have you recently disabled any system apps on your phone? That could cause some of the features, such as alarms, to stop working on your Samsung phone. Instead of going through all of your system apps manually, it’s easier to reset app preferences on your phone and start over. Here are the steps for the same.
- Open the Settings app and navigate to Apps.
- Tap the kebab menu in the top right corner and select Reset app preferences.
- Select Reset to confirm.
Rise and Shine
One of the solutions listed above should resolve the alarms not going off issue on your Samsung Galaxy phone. If not, the problem could be with the Clock app you’re using. In that case, you may want to try out the Clock app from Google or a dedicated alarm app for your Android.
