1. Wait and Try Again
Sometimes, it is just a waiting game. Because there are millions of people using ChatGPT at any time, their servers are under constant strain. Simply wait for a few minutes and then try again to see if you still get a network error or if ChatGPT answers your question. Here are some error messages that you may see:
Too many requests in 1 hour. Try again later. We are currently processing too many requests. Please try again later. An error occurred. If this issue persists please contact us through our help center at help.openai.com.
2. Quota Exhausted
ChatGPT went viral and is the fastest app to hit one million userbase in history. As such, OpenAI had no choice but to limit the number of questions you can ask ChatGPT daily. You may get the error below: If you are using OpenAI Playground API, you get $18 worth of credits. Once that is exhausted, you need to add your billing information. Simply follow the on-screen instructions or go to your profile page to do so. Many users have complained of getting network errors even while using chat.openai.com. While there is no official answer, ChatGPT has since released a paid subscription plan. So either wait some time and try again or upgrade.
3. Upgrade to Plus Plan
Upgrading to OpenAI’s Plus plan makes sense if you are a heavy ChatGPT user and can’t get through your work or day without using it. You will find the option to upgrade in the sidebar towards the bottom. Currently, it costs $20 per month and will:
make ChatGPT available even when demand is high increase response time give priority access to new feature releases
As you can see, upgrading would solve most problems you are facing with ChatGPT including network congestion and slow response times, especially when the response is longer. By the way, did you know you can delete your previous ChatGPT chats history and even your account if you wanted? Know how to do that now.
4. Check If OpenAI Is Down
OpenAI developed ChatGPT and also Dall-E 2. Like all other services online, it may face outages from time to time. If the problem lies on their end, that is on their servers, there is nothing really you can do about it. However, you can use a service like Downdetector to check for ChatGPT network errors and downtimes. It shows you the date and time of the outage, if any, and you can also view geographical data if any. If you want to dig deeper, open the official OpenAI Status page to find a breakdown of all systems like API, chat, labs, and more. Scroll a little to find an error log with the date, time, and details of the incident and whether it has been resolved or not. Visit Downdetector Visit OpenAI
5. Reload ChatGPT
Another way to solve ChatGPT’s network error is to simply reload the page. Doing so will not restart a new chat. Each chat has a unique URL and so when you reload the page, you will land back on the same chat and it will begin right where you left it. Pro Tip: How to Save and Export ChatGPT Conversations
6. Re-Open Chat
First, all ChatGPT conversations are automatically saved and can be accessed from the left sidebar. So, you won’t lose your progress or conversation. Close ChatGPT and take a short break. Maybe re-open the chat later? This will also give you some time to recollect your thoughts and allow you to frame better queries.
7. Disable VPN or Use It
It’s a double-edged sword. Let me explain. VPNs offer privacy and security but they also allow you to bypass IP and geographical restrictions. If you are using a VPN to access ChatGPT and facing network errors, try disabling the VPN before checking again. VPNs reduce internet speed too. If you are not using a VPN, try using one and change your IP location to a different country. If OpenAI is facing network congestion or an unusual spike in traffic in your country, this might help. 8. Generate Shorter Replies
Many users across the wild web found that ChatGPT struggles to come up with longer replies to users’ questions. The longer the answer to your question, the more time ChatGPT takes to formulate it, which sometimes leads to a service interruption. One way to solve this is to ask ChatGPT to generate shorter replies. How? Break down your question into smaller bits. There is also a simple hack to do so. Ask ChatGPT to explain X in less than 50 words or 100 words. For example: You will notice that ChatGPT takes far less time to generate a response because the response generated is short and takes less time. This will be a little harder to do when you are using ChatGPT to write codes though you can still try.
AI Eating Software Eating World
AI is taking over the world it seems just like software took over the world by storm once. While ChatGPT opened the floodgates, it is not the only AI kid on the block. Google is working on Bard and Microsoft has integrated AI right into their Bing search. Here’s an in-depth look at how ChatGPT fares against Bard and Bing AI. Just because you are using another AI service doesn’t mean you won’t face network errors as you did in ChatGPT. Now you know what is happening behind the scenes.
