Weird History and Fun Facts About Tetris
Tetris was originally designed as a programming challenge in Russia by a government programmer named Alexey Pajitnov in the 1980s, in Moscow. The name was actually partly inspired by tennis. Each block was made of four smaller blocks (four is called Tetra in Latin) and hence the name. It was originally shared as shareware. No money ever exchanged hands until companies started making gaming consoles for it. Tetris Effect was a hallucination effect where people used to see pieces falling in front of their eyes everywhere, even in their dreams. The music was taken from a love song named Korobeiniki that played in the background. No wonder everyone loved it! Research claims that Tetris can improve cognitive functions, thicken cortex walls, and actually alter the shape of your brain. Tetris was the first game to go to space inside a Nintendo Game Boy. It spent 196 days there and was later auctioned off for $1220.
